Research Sandpit: Community SLT Services 29 May 2024

Invite to an upcoming Research Sandpit focused on Community Speech and Language Therapy Services in the East of England.

The School of Health and Social Care at the University of Essex is embarking on some work to develop research – practice – third sector partnerships to tackle research priorities that can have the most impact on our local communities and services.

Last year, the university hosted some speech and language therapy ‘Research Collaboration Workshops’ which aimed to identify some of these priority areas.

In May the first follow-up event – a Research Sandpit – for academics and researchers, along with professionals, partners and third sector teams in the region will provide the opportunity to discuss some of the research areas identified in the prior workshops in greater detail and begin to shape what research projects could be undertaken to address them.

The focus of this upcoming event will be on considering new areas of research related to community speech and language therapy services, with an emphasis on people with chronic / lifelong conditions.

When: Wednesday 29 May, 12-2pm.

Where: Virtually via Zoom.

How: Register online.

The aim of this event will be to:

  • Collectively brainstorm clinical concerns and research interests related to the identified topic.
  • Identify and connect with researchers, practitioners and partners with common priorities for research within the topic, to form small breakout groups.
  • Within these groups, to develop potential research projects and funding proposals with (where possible) a named principal investigator and clinical or community partner and allocated actions for progress.

Please note – you do not need to be a speech and language therapist to contribute! Please kindly share this invitation with any colleagues you think may be interested – all are welcome, though registration is essential so that we can monitor numbers.
